A Markup is a collaborative writing session, where congressional committees or other groups hash out the specifics of legislation.

Welcome to Public Markup

Welcome to PublicMarkup.org, an experiment in preparing legislation more inclusively by opening bills to online, public review.

The Sunlight Foundation has prepared and posted a first and second draft of our model legislation, the Transparency in Government Act of 2008. The revised bill incorporates suggestions posted on this site. We invite your feedback on our current version, as we work with Congress to introduce the legislation and continue to refine our ideas.

The Sunlight Foundation supports, develops and deploys new Internet technologies to make information about Congress and the federal government more accessible to the American people. Through its projects and grant-making, Sunlight serves as a catalyst to create greater political transparency and to foster more openness and accountability in government.
